Worship in the Basilica is expressed through the Mass, Eucharistic
Adoration throughout the day, as well as private meditation, devotions, and personal prayer. For this reason, parishioners
and visitors alike are at worship at any given time throughout the day. Most importantly, the perpetual Presence of the Lord
Jesus in His Eucharistic form (signified by the red candle near the Altar) deserves utmost reverence. The roped off area around
the Altar is called the Sanctuary and is not to be entered, except by those designated, for public Worship.
The acoustical properties of the dome cause even the
smallest sound to be amplified. Please show respect for Worship in the Basilica by keeping a reverential silence or quiet.
Casual conversation and social exchanges are more properly done in the main vestibule and exterior areas of the Basilica.
While it is necessary for rehearsal directors, tour
guides, photographers, etc., to conduct certain activities in the Basilica, they are expected to encourage their participants
(including children) to show respect for Worship in the Basilica by maintaining the reverential silence or quiet necessary.
Thank you for your cooperation.
